“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1 ESV)
Today will be short and sweet because I think that freedom is a concept we need to soak in to really hold on to. I have to ask, does your life reflect one of freedom, or of enslavement? If you’re bound, you need to be liberated. Liberated from sin, liberated from the law, and liberated from lies.
“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36 ESV)
The reality of our condition is that we are not perfect. We are fallen and we need redemption. The Gospel is uncomfortable for that reason. Jesus Christ died a gruesome death in our place, and for what? That we may still be bound to such menial things as a certain social status or a small quandary with our spouse? Our enjoyment of the freedom found in Jesus is much more important to God than most of the things that we actually find ourselves concerned and struggling with.
We are God’s beloved children, but until we fully understand Christ’s freedom, we wont be free. God commands us to “be still and know.” What are you enslaved to? Let’s draw into Him and let our personal worth come from there, giving up the yoke of slavery, inhaling God’s truth and His promises and exhaling His freedom into our lives.
“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” (John 14:6 ESV)
“So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, ‘If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’” (John 8 31-32 ESV)
